Celebrating Father’s Day with Love and Crumpets
With Father’s Day fast approaching, our kitchen has been a hive of activity getting crumpets ready to ship out to doting dads everywhere. I find myself feeling so nostalgic when it comes to this time of year, reminiscing on special memories I have of my dad. So, I thought I'd share a little bit about him, how he fostered my love of food and my favourite memories.
Growing up, weekends were a big deal in our house, especially when it came to breakfast. Imagine a bustling kitchen, the smell of freshly brewed coffee, and a table heaving beneath the weight of plates and plates of food. My dad was the maestro of this morning symphony, and with seven kids, each meal was a production.
The breakfast table was always a colourful spread—picked olives from dad's olive tree, my mum's homemade jams and cheeses, and, of course, crumpets! Crumpets were the star of the show. We'd slather them with butter and honey or top them with my dad's favourite sunny-side-up eggs (fresh from his chickens), sprinkled with za’atar and fresh herbs from the garden.
But breakfast was more than just food; it was an experience. My dad would talk about what he was growing in his garden and what delicious meals he planned to whip up next. His passion for organic farming and soil health was contagious. It’s easy to see where my love for good food and inspiration for Crumpets by Merna began.

My dad was always my biggest cheerleader, encouraging me to find a career that allowed me to be independent and creative. Growing up in a farming family where food was at the heart of everything, he taught me the values of hard work, perseverance, and staying true to an organic lifestyle. His love for food and his knack for being a bit of a food critic fuelled my entrepreneurial spirit in this space.
Even though my dad lives overseas now, we still keep our connection strong. Father’s Day involves a lengthy chat and shared meal over FaceTime. It's a tradition that keeps us close, no matter the distance.
Father's Day is a time to recognise and appreciate all the fathers (and father figures) who inspire, support, and love unconditionally. I celebrate not just my wonderful dad, but also the values he instilled in me—perseverance, family, generosity, and empathy. These lessons have shaped me, and I'm grateful for each one.
Food facilitates connection. Every year I look forward to seeing your snaps of families enjoying Father’s Day brunch together or gifting dad a delicious selection of crumpets.
This year, we’ve put together a convenient Father’s Day gift pack full of crumpets and all the necessary accoutrements like Drunken Sailor Smokey Tomato Relish, Pepe Saya Smoked Butter, Single O Coffee and Pino’s Dolce Vita Fine Foods Free Range Smoked Bacon. If you’re looking for an easy option that dad will love, look no further.
Happy Father's Day from all of us at Crumpets by Merna!
