A Spring In Your Step, & On Your Plate: My Favourite Spring Crumpet Toppings

My Favourite Spring Crumpet Toppings

At Crumpets By Merna spring has sprung, so I’ve used some scrumptious spring -inspired toppings to bedazzle our already dazzling crumpets.

I thought I would share our favourites that are bound to make your taste buds do a happy dance. Hello Spring!

What's in Season?

As always, I love to use what is in season, as there is such an abundance of vibrant and delicious fresh produce to create the tastiest and most flavourful toppings for my crumpets.

These are our favourite fruit and veg in season at the moment:

  • Asparagus: Tender and crisp, perfect for savoury toppings
  • Rhubarb: Tart and vibrant, ideal for sweet compotes
  • Strawberries: Sweet and juicy, great for both sweet and savoury combinations
  • Peas: Fresh and bright, excellent for spreads and purees
  • Radishes: Crunchy and peppery, add a zesty kick to your crumpets

Spring Inspired Flavour Combinations to Try

  •       Asparagus and Lemon Ricotta
Who doesn’t love a cute green spear! Lightly grill asparagus spears and spread ricotta on your toasted crumpet. Top with the grilled asparagus, a generous squeeze of lemon and a sprinkle of black pepper.
  •      Rhubarb and Vanilla Bean Compote

Rhubarb is just fabulous! From its colour to flavour, it feels so luxurious. Simmer chopped rhubarb with vanilla bean and a touch of honey until soft. Spread on your toasted crumpet and top with a dollop of Greek yogurt.

  •     Strawberry Basil Bruschetta

A classic combo that never disappoints! Macerate diced strawberries with torn basil leaves and a splash of balsamic vinegar. Spoon over a toasted crumpet spread with soft goat cheese. Roughly chopped strawberries work just as well!

  •     Minted Pea Mash

The simple, humble pea. Blend fresh or frozen peas with mint leaves, lemon zest, and a touch of olive oil for an easy puree. Spread on your toasted crumpet and top with crumbled feta (and chilli flakes or Za’ atar).

  •     Radish and Chive Butter
Mix softened Pepe Saya butter with finely
chopped chives. Spread on your toasted crumpet and top           with
thinly sliced radishes and a sprinkle of sea salt.
Very  French!

Whether you prefer sweet or savoury, there's something here for every palate. We highly recommend stocking up on our delicious crumpets so you can try all these spring-inspired toppings, or invent your own!

Did you know??

The flour used in our crumpets is milled by FPM Cereal Milling Systems, a family-owned and operated flour mill located in Tamworth.

FPM designed a special Crumpet Wholemeal flour, exclusively for our use. It is manufactured using a high-quality prime hard wheat variety called Hellfire that boasts excellent protein. When milled, FPM includes medium-sized bran particles for optimum texture and taste. These hold moisture in the crumpet for that great mouthfeel you love.

Their Hellfire wheat is sustainably sourced from fourth-generation family farms in the Golden Triangle region of NSW, between Croppa Creek, North Star and Goondiwindi.

During the spring harvest, the colour from this seasons wheat turns our crumpets a light honey, bordering on peachy tone.

We love knowing that we can bring something so simple but so special to your breakfast.

Happy spring from all of us at Crumpets By Merna!
